First getting noticed in the 1975 Broadway musical Bubbling Brown Sugar, Stewart would finally get her lasting imprint on pop culture five years later when she covered the Eddie Floyd standby Knock on Wood to a disco beat. It earned her a Grammy nod and went platinum.
Stewart’s follow-up hit, a disco cover of The Doors’ Light My Fire failed to chart in the U.S. but went Top 5 in the UK, where she had continous success well into the 1980s.

What happened to:

Amii moved to Italy in late 1982 and has currently been very active in the Italian entertainment scene. She played Mary Magdalene in Italian touring company of Jesus Christ Superstar in 2000.
Since 2001, she has been a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF in Italy, dealing with AIDS work and releasing a charity single in ’06 benefiting UNICEF.

In 2003, Stewart starred as Billie Holiday in the one-woman show Lady Day, releasing a cast album the following year. 2007 saw Stewart in the Sanremo Music Festival for the 2nd time, performing a duet with Piero Mazzocchetti.
