Prefab group invented by German producer Frank Farian to perform his song Baby Do You Wanna Bump? Group peaked in 1978 with Rivers of Babylon and Rasputin from their Night Flight To Venus album. It sold over 50 million copies worldwide.

What happened to: Boney M

Follow closely: Bobby Farrell was fired in 1981 and replaced by Reggie Tsiboe but rejoined the group in 1985. In ’86 the group split up but the original line-up reformed in ’88. Things get confusing: Liz Mitchell leaves to form another version of “Boney M” with Reggie Tsiboe, while Farian keeps the “original” version of Boney M going. A subsequent court case results in a ruling where all four original members were entitled to perform as “Boney M”, with Mitchell’s version being “the official” Boney M. In 1994 there are no less than three versions of the group in business. Update June/05 Bobby Farrel lives in ‘de Bijlmer’ in Amsterdam. Recently he performed in a hilarious commercial for the Dutch insurance firm OHRA. (See What’s Related) (Update courtesy Eric van Nelfen)
