Izzy Stradlin is the quiet guy in the background of Guns N Roses, the rhythm guitar player. Apparently his bandmates used to call him “Mr. Invisible”.
He knew trouble when he saw it and left the band in mid-tour in 1991.
He quickly formed Izzy Stradlin & the Ju Ju Hounds and released a solo album in 1992 before dissolving the group.
He took a few years off and devoted time to his hobbies: motorcycles and racing, going so far as to build a racetrack near his home.
Besides an abortive reunion with ex-bandmate Duff McKagan called The Project which was later dropped by Geffen, his later solo projects include Ride On in 2001 and then On Down the Road in 2002

When Izzy split in 91 it had the same effect that would have happened if Richards left the Stones in 68. He was the Soul or glue that kept it right
In his autobiography, “Slash”, Slash speaks of Izzy as having been the major force when it came to song writing and creating the band’s sound and feel. Not only that, Izzy comes across as having a really intense character and an eqaully intense party-style. While only friends and family can vouch for the second point, many GNR fans can most certainly vouch for the first one: Izzy’s departure from GNR in 1991 was a major blow to the band from which they never recovered, a point that Slash makes obvious in his book.
[ Late update while I recoded the update format, sorry – webmaster ]
I was pleasantly surprised to see you had a section on Izzy Stradlin and wanted to shoot along an update for you if interested.
1. “The Project” you refer to as being dropped by Geffen was not dropped. The band is called Velvet Revolver and they have released an album or two. Izzy is not a member of the group, he was kicking around helping out with songwriting when the band began but took it no further.
2. Izzy released another new album last year due to an online petition calling for new material. The album titled Like A Dog was critically acclaimed and is available on iTunes.
3. Izzys official website is http://www.chopaway.com where you can also see a modern day music video taken from Like A Dog album.
4. The biggest update for you: After some 14 Years Izzy Stradlin surprised a sold out Hammerstein Ballroom in New York by rejoining Axl Rose on stage. He played 5 original Guns songs with Axls new GNR lineup, and has since gone on to tour with GNR around Europe and USA. He is classed as a guest at all shows and is not an official member of the band despite rumors saying he is.
