Kristy McNichol appeared in numerous films and television shows in the late 1970s and the 1980s, including the TV show Family and Empty Nest.
Kristy McNichol, who is bipolar (manic-depressive), has given up show business because her disorder is exacerbated by stress. After leaving “Empty Nest” in 1992–to try to get her illness under control–she worked at a hair salon, was a camp counselor and taught acting at a private school in Los Angeles. She also appeared in a few TV movies but seems happiest away from the pressures of the spotlight. After all, she started in Hollywood at the ripe old age of six!
