Mostly remembered for her role as the 500 lb. Momma in the 1993 movie What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Darlene was literally hand picked for the role based solely on her appearance on Sally Jessy Raphael where she was promoting the T.O.P.S (take off pounds sensibly) program which the now housebound Darlene hosted out of her own home.
Darlene has managed to play a few more parts on TV and films (most notably Touched by an Angel). A dedicated Christian Darlene remains active in Lion & Lamb Ministries and hosts her own website from her home in Texas.
