Some say the civil rights movement in the US started on December 1, 1955, the day Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white person and was arrested and fined for her troubles. In the 60’s she worked as a receptionist for congressman John Conyers. She later founded the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self-Development In 1996 president Bill Clinton presented her with the Medal of Freedom Award She recently sued the rap group Outkast for using her name in their song “Rosa Parks” without her permission. Update Oct 24/2005 Rosa Parks dies at age 92.
