Tonya Harding brought competitive instinct to new highs (or lows) by having a gang of thugs club rival figure skater Nancy Kerrigan during the 1994 Olympic Trials. She ended up plea bargaining to avoid prison and was eventually stripped of her title and banned from figure skating for life (in the Olympics that year Kerrigan won silver and Harding finished 8th). Harding then went on to travel a familiar path of scandalized women, posing for Penthouse magazine, and releasing the legendary “Wedding Night Video”. She has also been the subject of numerous pornograhpic forgeries ever since.
Harding currently lives in Washington State and works as a figure skating teacher in Portland, Oregon. Check the Tonya Harding FAQ site (see sources) for contact info In late 1999 she did skate again, in a professional competition in Huntington, West Virginia where she took 2nd place. Tonya didn’t go to prison for the Nancy Kerrigan episode, but she did go to jail and get community service in May 2000 for allegedly attacking her boyfriend with a hubcap. In November 2000 she re-united with Darren Silver, the man she once was accused of attacking with the hubcap. She has taken anger management courses and quit drinking. She is reputedly working on book about her experiences to be titled “To Hell and Back”. She was supposed to have an internet radio show on Eyada.com however a search of their site shows no results for Tonya Harding. Oct 2004 Long overdue update but as probably everybody knows, she’s now adoing celebrity (and non-celebrity) female boxing matches. Rockin Rob informs us “two months ago got beaten badly in Edmonton, Alberta”.
