Fay Wray

She was best remembered as the “Scream Queen” or the “beauty who killed the beast” in the 1931 classic King Kong. Although she made dozens of movies throughout the 20s & 30s none of them could outshine her identification as the girl the in hand of the giant ape!

Where are they now?

Fay retired from the sreeen in 1942 to devote her time to marriage & children. She made a “comeback” in the 50s & 60s mostly playing “mother” roles. By all accounts she still remains alert & active today (in her 90s) living quietly in southern California and occasionally attending celebrity functions. Update April 27,2003 CFRB radio in Toronto reports Fay as living in New York city, aged 97. She is to be awarded a star on the Canadian Walk of Fame in Toronto. August 8, 2004: Fay Wray dies in her sleep at her Manhattan Apartment. A hip replacement in 2001 had limited her appearances, but she posed for a photoshoot at the Empire State Building in May of 2004.

The day of Fay Wray’s death, the lights atop the Empire State Building were dimmed for fifteen minutes at midnight. This was prominently featured in all metro-NYC newspapers and tv stations at the time.
