Recorded Spirit in the Sky and had a minor follow-on hit Canned Ham in the 60’s.
Norm Greenbaum was interviewed in the Santa Rosa, Ca Press Democrat about 10 years ago. Apparently, Spirit in the Sky was his only claim to fame. He operates a delicatessin in Petaluma, Ca called Norm’s.
His hit was covered by Dr. and the Medics in the 80’s, which went number 1 in the U.K.
Update June 2005: Although Norman is no longer involved in farm adventures, he still lives in Northern California, devoting his energy into developing Spirit In The Sky, the web site. He is also gathering and enhancing previously unreleased material, along with working on a set of new songs for future projects.
