A Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who played 571 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Calgary Flames, Florida Panthers, Anaheim Ducks, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres and Chicago Blackhawks before ending his career in 2014. Money-was a founding member of HOPE (Helping Others Participate Equally), a not-for-profit that helps youth get involved in sports. The Super Series segment of the Gaskell Memorial Cup for Hope is named for Steve Montador. He was starting a new chapter in his life as a partner in a Gym in Toronto.

What happened to: The Matador

According to the Peel Regional Police, a friend of Montador’s awoke to find him dead in his home in Mississauga, Ontario February 15, 2015. The police pronounced him dead at the scene at 2:30. Foul play is not suspected and no cause of death was stated, pending an autopsy. He had retired the previous year after suffering concussions.
