Jan Michael Vincent

Jan Michael Vincent was quite a rising star, Airwolf 1984 movie and subsequent television series, The Mechanic, opposite Charles Bronson, Buster and Billie, Baby Blue Marine, many more too numerous to mention here

Where are they now?

He’s had his problems with drugs and alcohol, he was involved in a car accident in 1996 “resulting in a broken neck” (whose, I do not know), pleaded not guilty to DWI for that accident a year later. Spent 60 days in jail in 2000 for violating probation by being drunk in public.

Arrested July, 2000 for battering his fiancee. The person who originally sent me this one said he was working as a security guard in Texas. Thanks to some due dilligence by readers Steve and Pam Albright, who went so far as to search a Texas database and found the security guard had his birthday March/3/1980 while our JMV seems to have been born July 15/1944. So that is officially considered debunked.

The last thing he appears in is a movie called Whiteboy, directed by Abel Ferrara in 2002, in it he plays a racist sheriff. There is also an official JMV website which is currently inactive.

Update: Mar, 2004: Reader Libby Hess reported some time ago that he is now living in Redwood, Mississippi, where he was admitted to River Region Medical Center in late 2002 and was seen by locals in a wheelchair, accompanied by a woman companion who attracts attention because of her “strange wardrobe”. The locals pretty well leave him alone and wish him well.

Update: Feb, 2019: Jan Michael Vincent died on February 10, 2019 at the age of 74 in Asheville, North Carolina due to a heart attack while hospitalized at Mission Hospital Memorial Campus.

I met JMV in his girlfriends real estate office back in the ’80’s. She was interested in a property that I was the listing agent. As she was going to be late, she had asked him to meet me there and tell me that she would be there shortly, and for me to please wait.

When he arrived, he was covered from head to toe with “road rash”.
Trying to be friendly, I asked, What did the other guy look like?”

He told me an incredible story about how he was taking his two very large dogs for a run ON HIS BICYCLE!

All was good, until a cat ran across the street in front of the dogs.
They decided to chase the cat cutting across in front of his bike. He went airborne, landing on the pavement and sliding on his face, shoulders, and knees.

WHOA! I asked if he thought God was punishing him for his sins.
He said that a loving God would never put that much pain on one person.

I didn’t know how much pain he was still feeling, but he had a great attitude, despite his pain.

I saw him on a Bonanza rerun the other day, then was watching H2 tonight and lo and behold Airwolf is on! I never knew of him before Airwolf. I wasn’t a movie buff until the late 80s, after I had four kids. I wish I had paid closer attention when I was younger!

Just watched “Journey to Shiloh” what a good movie. Noticed that Jan was listed as Michael Vincent in the movie credit. Thanks.

  4. Shannon says:

My brothers and I loved watching air wolf when we were little, and now my I enjoy watching it again with my 4year old son! It’s his favorite show right now lol! I hope JMV is doing well.

  5. deborah says:

    > JMV did not have a role in the Jimmy Stewart film Shenandoah – verifiable source IMBD which lists the FULL cast AND crew (even those who did not receive credit) unfortunately I don’t know which actor DID kill his son – never watched the flick.

    > Hey, your CAPS buttons seems to be broken and it’s very irritatiing.

  7. Mike says:

I have seen him here in South Orange County, CA hanging around Albertsons supermarket.

Settle a long standing arguement “PLEASE”

Did Jan Micheal Vincent or did he not play the part of the Confederate soldier that kills James Stewarts son in the movie Shenendoah

  9. Jake says:

I am familiar with many of Jan’s acting gems. I pray he takes life “one day at a time” and cherish his peaceful times. I happened to have graduated from high school the same year Jan did (1963). Our high schools were only a few miles apart, (Visalia, California). We are, in a sense, Regional Brothers. A friend, Jake

  10. Kenneth Williams says:

Jan we miss you and thinking about you and wish you well in the years
ahead.. I have you in movies called Damnation Alley,White line fever, &
Hooper.. I will keep them in my collection for a long time…
You were a very great actor in your early years and good lookin too..

He is said to be living on Eagle Lake, which is near Redwood. Lots of solitude there. Vicksburg just happens to be the closest town with significant retail stores, like Walmart, Belk, Dillards, JCPenny (very small version) and a few other locals.

  12. wjmups says:

I’ve met with and talked to JMV several times in Vicksburg. He is a really cool dude and maintains his wit. His wife is one of the nicest people I know in Vicksburg. He’s living a great life full of love and memories.

  13. KGEE says:

That website you posted was nice. Vicksburg, MS looks like it offers a lot of solitude. Well, I have Airwolf S. 1,2,3 on DVD, and lots and lots of us “Xers” and others still remember Airwolf, Knight Rider, Vice, and A-Team as the best shows of the time. Take care, Jan Michael.

  14. guyincourtenay says:

His last movie role was in the independent film White Boy, also titled Menace (for the US video version), released in March 2002.
In an interview on the TV program The Insider on September 18, 2007, when asked about the 1996 car accident, he answered, “Y’know, I have no idea what you’re talking about. I don’t remember being in an accident.” He later discussed being an alcoholic.
As of 2008, Vincent resides in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

  15. eagle1 says:

As for him being in Mississippi in 2002, that is completely possible. In 2002/2003 I was working in a corner deli in New Orleans and he and his “wife” were regular customers. They lived around the corner on Chartres St. and we became friendly with them. He was severly alcoholic and pretty much incoherent most of the time. One night his “wife” called my house at 2 am and asked my boyfriend to come over and help her get him up out of the street and into the house. He had passed out in the gutter in front of his house and had to be carried inside. His “wife” calls herself Anna, but I do not believe that is her real name. His health is extremely poor and I would actually be surprised if he is not institutionalized at this point.

  16. Ms. Mike says:

There is a current picture of Jan and Anna at janmichaelvincent.org They both look good together. And he looks better then he has in a long time.

  17. worked at the place says:

It was his own neck that he broke. I believe he hit a pole while driving.

  18. LOUIS says:

THIS IS NOT A SIGHTING BUT YOU LEFT OUT ONE OF HIS MOST FABULOUS ROLES
WHICH WAS WITH ALLIE MACGRAW IN “THE WINDS OF WAR” MINI SERIES ON TV
STARRING ROBERT MITCHUM IN WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A PRIZE WINNING ROLE AS
THE FABULOUS NAVY COMMANDER. IT WAS ONE OF THE DEEPEST ROLES HE EVER
PLAYED, SPEAKING RUSSION, ETC. LIKE A PRO. I WILL COME BACK LATER TO
SEE IF WHAT PRIZES THE SERIES WON. IT WAS INCREDIBLE AND SHOWED
VINCENT AS A GREAT ACTOR, MORE’S THE PITY.

  19. Hawk says:

Mr. Vincent seems to be getting along fairly well, as well as he was last year (2008) anyway. He’s seen around Wal-Mart and other places around Vicksburg, but not very often. I will say that he looks better than he did on that TV interview he did several years ago. Today (Mon. March 30, 2009) I saw him and his female companion getting in their black conv. Benz. I don’t believe he drives much anymore. One more thing…he always wears a jacket or coat of some kind.

  20. epo says:

does Jan Michael Vincent have a son that is an actor?

  21. Kate says:

Jan Michael Vincent was apparently involved in a single car accident in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was taken to River Region Medical Center for treatment.
